What is a lee shore and why is it considered dangerous?

Short answer

A shore towards which the wind blows — dangerous because wind and waves can reduce sea room and drive the vessel towards danger

A lee shore lies in the direction towards which the wind blows, so wind and waves can erode sea room and reduce recovery options. The risk depends on distance, vessel capability, sea state, current and escape plan rather than the label alone. Revise this in Coastal Skipper Terminology.
