Separate documents, separate purposes

A radio certificate and an ICC solve different problems

Marine-radio operator certification concerns use of radio equipment; an ICC concerns pleasure-craft competence within its issue and acceptance framework. Neither automatically replaces the other, and charter acceptance remains a separate operator decision.

Radio

Check the operator certificate, station licensing, call sign, MMSI, equipment, and voyage area through current Irish and international guidance. Compass Marine Radio is revision, not an examination or certificate.

ICC

Eligibility, issue route, craft category, coastal or inland scope, CEVNI, and destination acceptance require current official checks. Do not buy an ICC companion before confirming the correct route.

Charter and overseas use

A charter company can require experience, logbook evidence, local briefing, or a different certificate even where an ICC or radio certificate exists.
