Compass Ireland is independent and is not affiliated with or endorsed by Irish Sailing, the RYA, the Department of Transport, ComReg, or Met Éireann. It does not award qualifications or radio certificates.

Separate documents, separate purposes

A radio certificate and an ICC solve different problems

Marine-radio operator certification concerns radio operation; an ICC concerns pleasure-craft competence within its issue and acceptance framework. Irish Sailing currently states that an ICC is not a training course and that RYA certificates are not accepted for its Irish ICC application route. Compass EUR access changes neither rule.

Radio

Check the operator certificate separately from the Irish ship-radio licence, call sign and MMSI. The Irish Maritime Radio Licence System currently says that, in general, only an Irish-issued Short Range Certificate is accepted when licensing a pleasure-craft radio station in Ireland. Check the current FAQ for exceptions and the planned voyage; Compass Marine Radio is revision, not an examination or certificate.

ICC

Irish Sailing describes the ICC as evidence obtained through eligible Irish Sailing course certificates or direct assessment for an already experienced candidate, not as a training course. Its current application guidance says RYA certificates are not accepted. Eligibility, original-document evidence, craft category, coastal or inland scope, CEVNI and destination acceptance still require current checks.

Charter and overseas use

A charter company can require experience, logbook evidence, local briefing, or a different certificate even where an ICC or radio certificate exists.
