Qualification-system boundary

Course names can look familiar without being interchangeable

Irish Sailing and the RYA are separate organisations with their own provider, syllabus, assessment, and certification arrangements. Irish Sailing's current ICC guidance expressly says that RYA certificates are not accepted for its Irish ICC application route, so familiar course names must never be presented as automatic equivalents.

Compare outcomes, not labels

Look at prerequisites, knowledge outcomes, practical performance, duration, assessment method, certificate issuer, validity, and intended use. Compass does not declare equivalence, and a certificate accepted by one organisation is not automatically an application route through the other.

Why Compass reuses entitlements

The Irish collection makes an existing RYA-aligned companion available in EUR without duplicating its course ID. It remains revision for that RYA-aligned syllabus; it is not mapped to an Irish Sailing award and does not support an Irish ICC application by itself.

Confirm before relying

Charter operators, clubs, training centres, insurers, employers and issuing bodies can apply distinct evidence rules. Confirm the current Irish Sailing, RYA and destination requirements before relying on any certificate.
