How Searchers Find You
Search and rescue works from information: last known position, distress alert, drift, weather, visibility, beacon data, radio contact, and visual sightings. Survivors help by staying findable and updating when possible.
A liferaft is small from the air and almost invisible in breaking seas without colour, lights, reflectors, and active signalling.
- Keep position information flowing while you can.
- Use beacons and radios to narrow the search.
- Use visual signals when rescuers are near or likely to see them.
- Stay together to increase target size and accountability.
