  • Recall the core check: aIS is not a complete traffic picture.

A self-guided revision companion that explains essential concepts, then helps you practise and test them. It supports—but does not replace—recognised instruction, practical training, assessment or certification. Access is a one-time payment, not a subscription.

Three Different Evidence Streams

Radar, AIS, MARPA, and chart overlays can agree, but they are not the same evidence. Radar detects echoes. AIS receives transmitted data. MARPA tracks selected radar targets. Overlay combines radar with chart and heading/position sensors.

The safest operator compares them and investigates disagreement instead of choosing the most convenient display.

  • AIS is not a complete traffic picture.
  • MARPA quality depends on radar picture and stable tracking.
  • Chart overlay depends on heading, position, and chart alignment.
  • Radar can detect non-AIS targets.
