Weather as a Go/No-Go Check
For short trips, weather is not an abstract forecast. It decides whether the route, crew, boat, and return plan still make sense.
Look for wind strength and direction, visibility, sea state, rain, temperature, pressure trend, warnings, and timing. A forecast that is acceptable in the morning may be unsuitable by the return.
- Check a marine forecast, not just a general town forecast.
- Compare forecast wind with the route's exposure.
- Check the return period as carefully as departure.
- Use local observations before leaving.
